23 April 2011 ~ Market Variety

You find the most interesting things when you shop at the JinShiTan market from goldfish and newts to...
...freshly ground tahini.

22 April 2011 ~ Happy Earth Day

We met our second grade friends from LongShan Elementary School on Golden Pebble Beach today to clean up trash in honor of Earth Day.
We picked up bags and bags of trash!

21 April 2011 ~ Trucking Away the Trees

I was glad to see that at least they were trucking away the trees to plant elsewhere.

2o April 2011 ~ Oops!

I've been living here for eight months now and have walked or biked under this sign a multitude of times (it was even my China Picture of the Day right after I first arrived), but today was the first time I actually noticed the creative spellings.

19 April 2011 ~ Bye, Bye Trees

The last of the trees in front of the apartment building were dug up this week to make way for new construction. So sad to watch.

18 April 2011 ~ Purple Potatoes and Salsa

Bought gorgeous purple potatoes at market this weekend. I have never eaten such a spectacular color.

Salsa ingredients
Much better than spending $8.00 on a jar of Pace Picante Sauce at the import store. And tastier too!

17 April 2011 ~ Hello Bug

Let me in! Let me in!

16 April 2011 ~ Forsythia Blooms and Seed Pods

15 April 2011 ~ Spring Walk

So wonderful to see color again!

Checking out the sweet purple flowers popping up out of the ground.

Up and over Dragon Mountain

14 April 2011 ~ Pineapple Art

When you purchase a pineapple at the JinShiTan market, it is beautifully pealed and spiraled.

A work of art
As I was taking these pictures, this gentleman was enthralled with my camera and wanted to see each shot I took. He then insisted I take photo of him. : )

13 April 2011 ~ A Walk to JinShiTan

Sid and I took a walk into JinShiTan to do our weekly market shopping this morning. The city is in the midst of building a wonderful boardwalk along the main road into town.
The brown landscape of winter has been usurped by yellow...hip, hip, hurrah!
Forsythia blooms
Brown, brown go away. Come again another day! Bring on the spring!

Adam and Lois, check this out! We didn't get to see David while in Italy, but you can come visit me in China and he's right down the street. : )

The road into JinShiTan where I do my weekly shopping.
Newer homes in the area
Grapevines waiting to bloom
Local school
Sid and I found these incredible rolls. Chinese street food, sure glad my stomach can handle you now!

12 April 2011 ~ Sake???

Sidney and I went out to a Japanese restaurant for dinner tonight and order sake to go complement our meal. This is what we were presented with:
We think it was gin and tonic, but we're not exactly sure. I truly know what it means to be illiterate when I can't even order sake. I have tremendous understanding and compassion for anyone who lives in a world and can't speak, read or even write the language. It's time I learn!

11 April 2011 ~ Happy Birthday, April!
