17 January 2011 ~ Our New Gym
Exciting news! Our new gym opened today. When in China, everything from weddings to new homes is celebrated with firecrackers...and our new gym was no exception! It was a cold, yet spectacular day and with the whole school looking on, the DAIS guards lit up two massive strings of M80 size firecrackers to commemorate this special occasion.
Something tells me that this would never fly in the states.
What do you think Monte Vista Staff? Maybe we should have done this when we opened our new school back in '93!
We then toured our amazingly beautiful new facility. Don't know who was more excited, the kids or the staff.

10-16 January 2011 ~ It's Just Cold
I've never experience such cold in my entire life! The mercury has not risen above freezing since I returned home from Thailand. I actually had a brain freeze while walking to work the other day. No kidding! Two weeks ago it snowed here, and when I came home from my trip, there was still a bit of the white stuff on the ground...and now a week later, those little bits are still there!

Note: all of these were taken when I arrived back in China during the last week of my trip. Not a single crazy sign to be found in Thailand...only in China! The Thai must have better translators. : )

8 January 2011 ~ Last Day
What a lucky and blessed woman I am. Just spent the last three weeks traveling through Asia, volunteering and connecting with the sweetest children at an amazing orphanage in Thailand, and spending such special time with my dear new friends. I was a bit sad to be heading back home, but also revitalized and ready to get back to work. : )
We left the hotel bright and early to catch our 9:30am flight back to Dalian. We tried to find some breakfast food at the airport, but when traveling through China there is no such thing as breakfast food. Here's Nancy settling for the next best thing...chocolate "ice cream." I put ice cream in quotes here because there is really no such thing as ice cream in China either!
It may look like ice cream....
