We rented bikes today and explored out a bit farther than our feet could take us.
Found this sweet little tea room close to our hotel.
Menu with only Chinese Characters...always a challenge for us expats here in China.
Luckily the owner saw us struggling and came over with a print out in English so we could order the most delicious breakfast.
Next to our table was a wall of books and games, and soon we were playing a children's card game. The directions were all in Mandarin, so we made up our own rules!
Mmmmmmm....
It was similar to go fish, but we had to ask in Mandarin. "Hey Sid, ni you meiyou san ge xiangjiao yi ge mei ma." I'm getting pretty good with my Mandarin!
An American breakfast! Don't see this very often!
View from our table...love this!
Off to the Yonghegong Lama Temple, the Palace of Peace and Harmony.
Shishi, stone imperial guardian lions, standing sentry. Here's the male resting his paw upon an geometric patterned globe called axiu qiu and...
the female restraining a playful cub on its back, representing the cycle of life.
Look familiar, Christiane? This is were I got our bracelets.
Stunning architecture!
Then it was off to Confucian Temple...
Confucius Statue
Ah wisteria, my favorite scent and flower in the world at the Confucian Temple. Does it get any better than that?
Back on the bikes and off to our favorite restaurant...Hutong Pizza!
"Guard dog" at Hutong Inn ; )
