Woke up to another awesome Phuket sunrise, packed our bags, met up with Megan, Jess, and Brandon who arrived last night from Vietnam, and...
...headed to Baan Santisuk (Home of Peace and Happiness) Orphanage just north of Phuket Island in Phang Nga to serve in any way needed for the next week. : )
None of us were exactly sure what to expect when we arrived, and we were all smiles as we walked into this little piece of heaven. The children are so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people and beauty.
We're staying on the property right next door to the orphanage.
This is The Smiths' bungalow.
The view from our front porch.
Where Jess, Brandon, Megan and I are staying.
The road into the orphanage.
This is Doreen and Mark's house. Doreen and Mark are missionaries who envisioned, built, and maintain this beautiful place for orphaned children to live and be loved abundantly.
The building on the left is the multi-use room/kitchen, the one in the middle is the girls' home, next to it is the boys' home and on the right is where the Thai staff live.
The orphanage currently houses nine children ranging in age from 3 to 14 and they are the most adorable, lovable, huggable children I have ever met! Pauli, who is 4, was the first child we met. He came right up and gave us all the sweetest hugs you could imagine. We spent the afternoon playing with the kids, enjoying getting to know each child and their endearing personalities, and talking with Doreen about how, when, and why the children came to her. The stories broke my heart and brought tears to my eyes, but this sad feeling soon faded when I saw the joy in the children's faces and just how happy they are living in this incredible place. The air was filled with the joyous sound of children laughing, playing, and loving life!
