27 November 2010, Part 5 ~ Shanghai Nights!

We could have spent many hours exploring Yuyuan Garden, but thanks to the very early setting sun, we were graciously told to clear out. Old Town was really hopping now with its night life and beautiful lights.

Right outside the exit of Yuyuan Garden was a section of Chinese artists in the midst of their creations. This gentleman is a paper cutting artists. We also witnessed silk embroiderers, calligraphers, and engravers busy at their craft.
More beautiful fans.
The night life brought out the food vendors. Bull head soup anyone? Mmmmm....
Cooking up goodies.

Something to munch on with claws.
Candied fruit on a stick.
The international dolls were spectacular. There is actually a national holiday in Japan on March 3 called Hinamatsuri especially for girls and their dolls.

Daily long arm
Shanghai Nights!

Man on the street selling "Rolex" watches. There was a multitude of folks selling knock-off watches and handbags. Most of them came up to you with a card showing you their wares and begging you to buy, but this guys was bold and pulled the contraband right out of his bag for us to see.

This gentleman in playing "Yankee Doodle." : )

Beautiful Chinese lanterns

A store dedicated to nothing but chopsticks.

Check it out Jan...Marks & Spencer in Shanghai!! And there was a Tesco around the corner! I felt like I was in your neck of the woods!
It's hairy crab season in Shanghai! These cute little hairy crabs are popular in the Yangtze Delta region from the end of October until the end of winter. There were monuments everywhere dedicated to these creatures, including this big guy...Crab Head is what we called him!
After a long day of sightseeing and shopping, we headed back to the hotel for some much needed relaxation. Last night's adventure out to the bar cost us a whopping 200 RMB/30 bucks for two drinks, so we found a local shop that sold a bottle of Bacardi and cans of coke and brought the bar to our rooms.
Cheers! Here's to Shanghai and good friends!
We laid out all our loot and inspected our day's purchases.
I bought a new red dragon robe.
All shopped out and a few drinks later...
What a great day! Shanghai, you're the best...we'll be back for more!
